1996 Government of the Union of Myanmar enacted the Private
Industrial Enterprise Law (Law No.22/29 dated 26-10-1990) with
the result that a large number of small scale industries had
emerged to get themselves registered under that law with the
Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection of the
Ministry of Industry (1). Then in 1991 the
Government enacted the Promotion of Cottage Industries Law (Law
No.13/91 dated 10-10-1991) for the development of thousands

industries existing in various States and Divisions.
These events prompted the Industrial and Construction Sub- Committee
of the Union of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI)
to consider that all the private industries, irrespective of
type and size, should be organized into a unified association
with the aim of industrial development in the nation.
A Committee composed of experienced industrialists headed by
the Chairman of the above-mentioned Sub-Committee was formed
to take necessary steps towards the formation of an association
of private industries.
Thus in 1993 the Myanmar Industries Association (MIA) was formed
under the license No.32 dated 27, April 1993 of the Ministry
of Commerce. |
